Change what you can !

Life is a maze. It holds a lot of twists and turns. We face shocking and surprising turning points without warning. Each day is different and we feel uncertain about each minute. Nevertheless life goes on or it has to go on. It doesn’t stop for anyone. Because of this element of uncertainty, life seems hazardous as well as exhilarating.

Life is like the game of cricket. We are all batsmen. Anybody can be the bowler – fast or medium. It is decided by the opposite captain. The batsman has no authority to object that decision. The responsibility of the batsman is to protect his wicket. He has to focus on the ball and how the bowler releases it. He needs to be ready for any type of delivery.

Ball is like the challenge we face every day. You are not aware who will bowl and what type of delivery will encounter you. You have absolutely no control. However, you have an advantage to protect yourself – the bat. The bat is in your control. You hit or defend the ball. It is your choice. Every ball is different. If you lose your focus, you will be thrown out.

Problems are assorted. We don’t have the bridle in our hands. Be ready to face trouble from ‘anyone’.

You can win only by your ‘ATTITUDE’.

How you handle your conflict situation determines your future and success. You have two options when you encounter a perplexing situation: make it worse or dominate it.

Consider the game of cricket. The batsman must

Know his strength.

Be aware of his weaknesses.

Identify the strengths and weaknesses of the opposite team.

Be able to decide – to hit or defend.

Spot out the changes deployed by the captain.

Not only keeps his wicket but keeps scoring runs.

Remain unruffled without getting intimidated by the anger of the bowlers.

Your problem may be small or big. How do you handle?

There are things that you can change or you can’t change.

If your boss is so insensitive and cynical, don’t lose your heart. Don’t take hasty decisions. Burn out all the options you have.

Make sure you are smart in your work.

Prove your credentials by performance.

Always keep evidence for the good work you accomplish.

Discuss with your boss when time permits.

Above all, keep your cool and keep performing. You can’t change your boss but you can change yourself. Every affliction teaches you a lesson and moulds your character.

First, you accept what is happening around you. Every trial has its limits. If you think you can not tolerate this torture any more, you have every right to look for the option. Now you change what you can. You need not work in a place where your performance is not given due credit. Look for options where your credentials and performance will be appreciated and awarded. CHANGE YOUR SITUATION NOW. Don’t become a slave to your circumstances.

Don’t forget !

Every problem has something to teach you.

It tests your inner strength.

It corrects your weaknesses.

I read an article about ‘egg, carrot and coffee bean’.

Put three pots of water over the fire. In the first pot, put some carrots. In the second pot, put an egg. And in the third pot, put some coffee beans that have been grounded into coffee powder. Boil the water for 15 minutes. The carrots went in hard.

They are now soft. The eggs went in soft inside. Now they are hard inside. The coffee powder has disappeared. But the water has the colour and the wonderful smell of coffee.

The boiling water is like the problems of life. We can be like the carrots. We go in tough and strong. We come out soft and weak. We get very tired. We lose hope. We give up. There is no more fighting spirit. Don’t be like the carrots!

We can be like the eggs. We start with a soft and sensitive heart. We end up very hard and unfeeling inside. We hate others. We don’t like ourselves. There is no warm feeling, only bitterness. Don’t be like the eggs! We can be like the coffee beans.

The water does not change the coffee powder. The coffee powder changes the water! The water has become different because of the coffee powder.

The hotter the water, the better the taste.

Change what you can. Changes bring excitement.

Not every thing can be changed. Certain circumstances are beyond our control. Now change your attitude. Accept what you can’t change. Tormenting yourself over things you have no control will wear you out.

It is unwise to worry about your appearance. You cannot change what God has given you. Don’t waste your time upsetting yourself over these ‘unchangeable’ aspects of life. There is absolutely no use of feeling agonized about your past. What is done can not be undone. Don’t live in past. Live for the present and future.

You can bring amazing changes in most of your life’s situations.

I give you some examples below:

Low marks in exams? Solutions - Work hard. Stop watching TV. Burn the midnight oil.

Don’t have adequate money? Solutions - reduce your expenses. Stick to a strict budget. Look for ways to earn extra money.

I feel bored of my life – that means you are wasting your time. Engage your mind in learning new things. Update your knowledge. Do online courses. Join a part time course. Don’t sit idle.

If you strongly believe you can bring some changes in your current style of life, contemplate over the important question ‘HOW?’

Certain things need more time and some less. Don’t be in a hurry. If you are an ordinary employee today, don’t expect to become a manager tomorrow. It takes time. It is not impossible but it needs experience and perseverance.

Ponder over things that you need to change for your betterment. You can change if you want.

The only permanent things in this life is CHANGE.
